Adam Sawicki leaves GTS Central Europe

28. 01. 2011
Today, as the GTS Group enters its next phase of development, the three-year cooperation of Adam Sawicki and GTS Central Europe has reached a conclusion. Adam Sawicki has been responsible for leading GTS CE through a critical phase of development which included the introduction of a cohesive Central and Eastern European (CEE) regional strategy and a refocusing of the company towards B2B sector. This has been a groundbreaking stage for the GTS Group in many respects. The position of the CEO of the Group will be taken over by Danny Bottoms.

During Adam Sawicki’s tenure as CEO, the GTS Group which spans Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) has significantly increased its operational range through both increased efficiencies of particular business units and well-planned acquisitions. Years 2008-2009 were used for restructuring and reorganization of the operator. In 2010, GTS Group conducted three successful acquisitions in the region, strengthening thereby its position as a leader.  Year 2011 began with another purchase and creation of a new independent company within the GTS Group, CE Colo. CE Colo is first data center company spanning the CEE region.

Despite an extended economic crisis, Adam Sawicki leaves the company in excellent financial condition. Under his leadership, the GTS Group has increased cash flow and EBITDA each year.

“Adam Sawicki conducted a reorganization of the Group that enabled achievement of profitability and cash generation levels that put GTS CE among the leading telecommunication players present on the market. He successfully led GTS through a period of recession, not only fully executing but even exceeding assumptions of the strategy adopted before the crisis, in 2007. As a result, EBITDA has increased by almost 1/3 during these three years,” said Krzysztof Krawczyk, Managing Partner of Innova Capital, a private equity fund and co-owner of GTS CE Group.

Prior to his role at GTS Group, Adam Sawicki was the founder and, for many years, CEO of the Polish branch of TeliaSonera. At the same time, he held the position of Managing Director of TeliaSonera UK in London. He was a management board member of TeliaSonera Wholesale (TeliaSonera AB group).  He is a graduate of the Faculty of Economy and Business Administration at the Stockholm University, participant of specialist programmes for management staff at Harvard Business School and Stanford University, and of IMD and INSEAD business schools.

The position of the CEO will be taken over by Danny Bottoms, who joins GTS Group from Cavalier Telephone Corporation, a competitive carrier operating in the eastern USA. As President & CEO, he led the company for over two years prior to its acquisition by PAETEC in 2010. Before Cavalier, Danny was COO of Showtime Arabia, a pay TV company serving the MENA region from Dubai. He was President & CEO of OnFiber Communications for over 5 years before the company was acquired by Qwest Communications. With 20 years in the telecommunications and media industries, Danny has also worked in management positions with MasTec, Qwest, and MCI. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iowa in the USA.
